Sixth Week of Chemo and Radiation

Dad completed his 6th Chemo treatment today. He will have 3 more days of radiation this week and then he will have a break!!! He will not have Chemo or Radiation next week (week of June 30).

On July 7 at 2:00 p.m. he will have a CT Scan in Dr. Mehta's office (non-diagnostic) and on that day he will have a "BOOST" treatment of Radiation - the treatment will be focused into a smaller area (field) - not greater intensity but a smaller area for a little longer period of time.

On July 8, Dad has an appointment with Dr. Danso (Oncologist) to get a new treatment schedule.

Dad's lab numbers were slightly lower but within an acceptable range.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. Dad has tolerated treatment well with very few side effects. His attitude remains positive and he is still determined to continue with the treatment.

Mom and Dad are planning to travel to Illinois in mid-July for Tyler's Wedding (Grandson). Dad is feeling strong enough to make the trip and the Radiation Nurse said that they can plan his treatment around the trip. She felt it was important for Dad to attend this exciting family event. Mom and Dad are both looking forward to the wedding. Praise God that everything is going well. Please pray that the treatments are effective and that the side effects are minimal. Our God is GREAT!!!!

Week Five!

Yesterday, Dad completed week five of Chemo. His lab work showed that his numbers were a little lower than last week, but acceptable. He continues to have radiation each week day. Today (6/18/08) he went to the Oncologist. Dr. Tekchandani performed a scope of his bladder which she has been doing routinely. She saw a red spot in his bladder and will biopsy it in September.

A side note: For Father's day... Dad was surprised by Lynette and Teresa with an unexpected visit mid-week. That was a fun treat to see them and have dinner together. Saturday, he had a bonfire and hung out with some grand kids and kids. He opened gifts, watched a memories slide show, had dinner and seemed to enjoy every moment of it.

Endurance.........

Dad is still feeling well with minimal symptoms (pretty good for his 4th week of treatments). He is tired and when he does have a typical symptom, it seems to clear up quickly. Today was a full day. Dad said it best, "I just have to hurry up so I can wait". Here is a sample of his day - labs, wait, Dr. visit, wait, chemo, wait, radiation..... it was really something. And to think that during all of that he had a smile on his face. He saw Dr. Danso today, there are no changes in his treatment plan, but his lab numbers were good. He is holding steady on most of his numbers and there are no immediate concerns there. Praise God for that good news! The rumors are true, he is a trooper. He is surrounded by staff that is helpful and encouraging. They have made this whole process a little less stressful, kudos to Midland Hospital Oncology/Radiology Department. Most importantly he is surrounded by people who love him very much and he is feeling the love from the phone calls, notes and prayers from all of you. Thank you! - Steph
